Where does the name Sanders come from?

Was told by more than one person I was of Nordic-German decent. Was playing online poker the other night with a German and he said my name wasn't german. Online I found evidence that my name could come from Northern Germany, scotland or british isles. Maybe someone out there has a better clue???
